In Year 6, we cover all area of maths, building on what we have learned in the previous years in order to become confident and skilled mathematicians, we also develop our mathematical reasoning skills throughout the year. We develop our love of reading in class, and we read a range of texts in our VIPERS, especially historical fiction books that link to our history topics. We build on our writing targets from Year 5 and by the time we leave Year 6, we can write for a range of purposes, use varied punctuation for impact and clauses, apply a range of cohesive devices and we join our handwriting. In Science, we find out about animals including humans, light, evolution and inheritance, living things and their environments and electricity which is linked to our circuit building in Design and Technology. The Victorians and the Industrial Revolution, World War Two and the Battle of Britain and William Wilberforce and the slave trade are our history topics. In Geography, we learn geographical skills and fieldwork, sustainability, human and physical geography linked with trade, economics and globalisation, and we also explore our ever-changing world. To find out about what we learn in other subjects, click on our long-term plan below. We think Year 6 is particularly special because it is our last year at Tickton C.E Primary School and we will have the skills, experiences and love of learning that will prepare us to be successful in our next stage of learning.
